WHAT IS HOLISTIC MASSAGE?

The human body operates as a collaboration of interdependent systems: physical, emotional, mental, & energetic. When one system becomes out of balance it can affect the other systems as well. A holistic massage honors this interconnectedness and strives to help the client restore and maintain health, balance, and harmony within their body by utilizing a variety of techniques and modalities appropriate to the client’s specific needs at the time.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF MASSAGE?

Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue, minimize stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork are also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration & mental clarity, and reduce anxiety & depression.

DO I NEED TO TELL YOU WHAT MEDICATIONS I’M TAKING, OR DISCLOSE OTHER HEALTH RELATED ISSUES?

Yes. Some medications or medical conditions may be contraindicated for receiving a massage. Clients are responsible for disclosing any medications, illnesses, injuries, or other medical conditions that may require a medical clearance from a physician prior to receiving massage.

WHAT KIND OF MASSAGE OIL DO YOU USE?

I use HobaCare 100% Pure Jojoba (pesticide-free). Non-allergenic, completely free of additives, and unscented, jojoba is technically not an oil at all, but the extract obtained by pressing the plant’s seeds (liquid wax esters). Jojoba is similar to the natural oils produced by the human sebaceous glands and is moisturizing without feeling oily or greasy. You can learn more about jojoba by clicking this link to the company’s website: www.jojobacompany.com.

For clients interested in the therapeutic effects of aromatherapy, I will often add some Badger Aromatherapy Massage Oil into the jojoba. Badger products are made with organic oils, plant extracts and essential oils, and can aid in relaxing, calming and soothing the mind and body. DO YOU PLAY MUSIC DURING THE MASSAGE?

The goal of music is to help you relax. I usually play a variety of soothing and gentle background music during a massage because it tends to minimize outside noises and distractions and helps clients to relax more fully and deeply. I have playlists from New Age and Classical to a variety of vocals including Country and Opera.  For many musicians and those with sensory sensitivities, however, this type of music is far from relaxing and they prefer to have no music at all.  Please let me know before your appointment if you have any specific requests or sensory sensitivities and I can try to accommodate your needs to ensure your comfort and relaxation.

I LIKE A LOT OF PRESSURE; DO YOU DO “DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE”?2ndtryserveimage

“Deep Tissue Massage” and “firm pressure” are two different things. It’s a common misconception that a massage needs to hurt in order to be effective or beneficial. This is not true. Massage should not be a painful experience.

The pressure I use during a holistic massage varies according to the individual needs of the client. A lighter pressure is always utilized when first beginning a massage, in order to warm up and relax the muscles. This allows for a firmer pressure to be used later on to comfortably access muscles that are less superficial.

Deep Tissue Massage is a special modality unto itself that can be beneficial for certain chronic conditions that require access to muscles positioned deep within the body. While it’s not uncommon for me to utilize some Deep Tissue Massage techniques during a holistic massage if it’s warranted and indicated to the needs of the client, I do not offer a separate “Deep Tissue Massage,” per se.

DO I NEED TO BE NAKED?

I encourage clients to undress to their comfort level. Many clients are nude, while some clients prefer to leave on their underwear. Regardless, modesty and privacy are always respected and clients are completely draped with a sheet and blanket throughout the entire massage session, except for the part of the body being worked on.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

No.

WHAT IF I FORGET MY APPOINTMENT?

Clients are asked to provide a minimum of 24 hours notice when cancelling an appointment. Please visit the Polices page for information on appointment scheduling, payments, client responsibilities and ethics.
